Traverse — Privacy Policy (Drivers)

Last updated: 25 July 2026

Drivers give us more sensitive information than riders do — including identity documents and continuous location while on duty — so this is a separate policy rather than a footnote in the rider one.

Who we are

The data controller is Traverse, of Accra, Greater Accra Region, Ghana.

Contact us about your data at traversegh@gmail.com. We respond within 14 days.

What we collect

Your account: name, phone number, email address, and the school you drive for. There is no password — you sign in with a one-time code sent to your email and then to your phone.

Your date of birth, collected only to confirm you are 18 or over. We do not use it for anything else.

A record that you accepted these terms: the date and time, and which version of this policy and the Terms of Service you were shown. For drivers this record also evidences that the obligations in section 7 of the Terms — a valid licence, a roadworthy vehicle, and insurance covering fare-paying passengers — were put in front of you before you carried anyone.

Identity and eligibility documents that your school administrator requires before you can accept rides — typically your driver's licence and photo identification, plus a profile photograph. These are stored in restricted, non-public storage, separate from ordinary app files.

Your vehicle: make, model, colour, plate number and seat capacity, plus the expiry dates of its insurance certificate and roadworthiness certificate, and copies of those certificates where you or your administrator upload them. We hold these because the law and our Terms require a vehicle carrying fare-paying passengers to be insured and roadworthy, and because your school's administrators need to see when cover is due to lapse — which is only possible if we know when it expires. To be clear about what this does and does not do: the app does not currently stop offering you rides when a certificate lapses, so do not treat continuing to receive requests as evidence that your certificates are in order. Keeping them valid is your responsibility, and your school may suspend your access if you drive without current cover.

Your location — including in the background. This is the most sensitive thing we collect, so to be explicit:

Your work record: rides offered, accepted, declined and completed; earnings; ratings and comments riders leave about you; and any disputes involving your rides.

Safety features you choose to use. If you add an emergency contact, we store that person's name and phone number, and when you press SOS we send them a message containing your name, phone number and details of the ride you are on.

We also keep a record that an SOS was raised — that it was you, when, which ride it concerned, and whether your phone had a position at the time. We do not keep the position itself. Your coordinates go into the message to your contact and are stored nowhere else. The record exists so your school can see that alarms are being raised and answer questions about them, including yours. Your contact's number is stored only in a shortened form such as +2335***101.

(This section was missing until 9 September 2026. The feature already existed; the policy did not describe it. Nothing about how it works changed — what changed is that this document now says so.)

Payment details for being paid: your mobile-money agent code.

Why we use it, and on what basis

We do not sell your personal information.

Who sees it

How long we keep it

Your rights

Under Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) you may ask to see, correct, or delete your personal data, object to or restrict certain uses, and complain to the Data Protection Commission.

Because driver accounts are created and closed by your school's administrator rather than self-service, send requests to your school administrator or to traversegh@gmail.com.

We will acknowledge your request and respond within 14 days. Where we cannot delete something because we are legally required to keep it — a fare record, or a document needed for an open safety complaint — we will tell you what we are keeping and why, and delete the rest.

Security

Verification documents are held in a private, non-public location and are served only to authorised administrators, never by a public link. Signing in uses one-time codes rather than a password, traffic is encrypted, and administrator access is limited by role and by school.

If a breach affects your personal data, we will notify you and the Data Protection Commission as required by law.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app changes, and will tell you in the app before a material change takes effect.
